Our Impact so far.
What started as love for one little girl has grown into something that is reaching families in their hardest moments. Through Opal’s Workshop of Love, we have already been able to donate boxes of blankets, toys, comfort items, and essentials to children and families in the hospital, as well as provide support items to families staying at the Ronald McDonald House.
Each item we give is more than just a donation—it’s a reminder that someone cares, that they are not alone, and that there is still love surrounding them even in difficult times.
This is only the beginning. With the support of our community, we will continue to grow, reach more families, and honor Opal’s legacy through every act of kindness.
Opals Little free Pantry
Opal’s Little Free Pantry was created in loving memory of Opal May with one simple belief: no family should have to wonder how they’re going to feed their children or afford basic necessities. Around the world, nearly 2.3 billion people experienced moderate or severe food insecurity in 2024. Here in Oregon, approximately 661,000 people—including more than 160,000 children—are facing hunger, or roughly 1 in 6 Oregonians and 1 in 5 children. The need reaches our own Eastern Oregon communities, too; available county data has estimated food insecurity at 13.4% in Umatilla County, with several other Eastern Oregon counties reporting even higher rates. That is why we created Opal’s Little Free Pantry—a judgment-free place where neighbors can find food, diapers, baby items, hygiene products, and other everyday essentials when they need a little extra help. Our motto is simple: “Take what you need. Leave what you can.” Every item given and every family helped allows Opal’s love to continue making a difference in the community she called home. Located outside Sweet Potato’s Closet at 167 E. Main St., Hermiston, Oregon.
2026 Back-to goul event with Zom-B13
Opal’s Workshop of Love was honored to help Zom-B13 with their Back to Ghoul event, a community event dedicated to helping local children head back to school with the supplies they need. Backpacks and school supplies were distributed to families in our community, helping take some of the financial pressure off parents while making sure kids could start the school year feeling prepared and supported. We chose to help because our mission has always been bigger than one type of need—it’s about showing up for children and families when they need a little extra love. Supporting Back to Ghoul gave us another opportunity to carry Opal’s love forward while working alongside others who are making a difference right here in our community.
